Public art is an important part of the programme of changes we wanted to make to the seafront. Artist Alec Finlay was suggested to us as someone interesting we should talk to, and so began this lovely, creative relationship. We were thrilled to welcome him and poet Ken Cockburn to Prestwick. They walked the seafront with us, met lots of our walkers, and held some workshops to discuss what Prestwick means to our group. Together, ideas for outside public art were discussed. The idea that took immediate hold, and captured imaginations, was for wind vanes.
