Our sparkling fundraising night brought some “Strictly Dancing” vibes to town. Latin and Ballroom dancers Jax Becker and her award-winning partner Alberto Andrada Diaz came from Spain to support our charity which is close to their hearts. To a sold-out audience, they performed five spicy dances, and led a salsa lesson on a packed dance floor. The night ended with a disco.
“Why? Because Dementia Friendly Prestwick has been a lifeline for my friend’s family, and it needs our help to keep the music playing, the kettle on, and the smiles flowing,” said Jax. Members pay £15 a day, but without core funding, the club relies on fundraising efforts such as this one. And on this very successful night, over £13,000 was raised.
Director and project manager, Julie Twaddell explained “Jax is a great friend of Neil Gallacher and his father, Daniel. And when she heard how our charity supported Laura, his mother, with her dementia journey, she proposed this event. Initially the plan was for her to come over with her dance partner, Alberto and dance one afternoon for our members to enjoy. But as with most things we do, we thought “Let’s make it a party for everyone!” The dancers kindly donated their time, made their own way over to Scotland, and through sponsorship, have raised over £10,000 so far*. With ticket sales, a raffle, and a silent auction on the night, we raised a further £3,000. We are blown away with the generosity of the people and organisations who donated prizes, and who gave us money on the night. Muchas gracias!”

Alberto, visiting Scotland for the first time, said “Thank you so much for this opportunity. I enjoyed it very much, and you were so kind to us”.
Christine Mcfarland, who has supported the club since it opened three years said “Well done to everyone involved, it was a wonderful night”.
The night was dedicated to the memory of Laura Gallacher. Her husband, Daniel, said “I am amazed at the amount of people who not just came, but joined in the celebration. Thank you everyone for doing this, and Laura would have loved it.”
